Civitas elan conference

Ljubljana has played host to the Final Conference of the EU CIVITAS ELAN project.

Through numerous activities and measures to encourage changes in travel habits, the City of Ljubljana has helped people to make better-thought out decisions in their choices of means of transport, which will certainly have a long-term impact on reducing the negative effects of transport on the environment and the quality of life in the city. The European CIVITAS ELAN project, co-ordinated by the City of Ljubljana and which draws to a close in October this year, is also an important contributor to thinking about sustainable mobility.

With a view to showcasing all the achievements, new knowledge, experience, ideas and visions, partnerships and friendships that have arisen since September 2008 when the project got underway, we organised the Final Conference which was held in Ljubljana on 27 and 28 June 2012. It was attended by political representatives of all five cities involved in the project – alongside Ljubljana, Zagreb, Croatia; Ghent, Belgium; Brno, Czech Republic and Porto, Portugal.

The event opened on Wednesday 27 June, in the Central Atrium at City Hall with the open exhibition ‘CIVITAS ELAN – five cities for better mobility’, which highlights the project’s achievements and runs until 6 July.

The closing event of the conference took place in Congress Square from 9am to noon on Thursday 28 June, at which those present were addressed by Deputy Mayor of the City of Ljubljana Prof Janez Koželj.
