Civitas forum 2015

Ljubljana will be hosting the CIVITAS Forum 2015, the most important European conference on sustainable urban mobility.

Ljubljana has been selected from the three finalists (the other two were the Danish Odense and the Italian Reggio Emilia) mostly due to the progress in taking measures in the field of sustainable mobility in the previous years.

By selecting Ljubljana, the CIVITAS initiative awarded Ljubljana's development vision to 2025, and our accomplishments in the last years that we have achieved with the new traffic policy in the city, the expansion of the pedestrian zones and the measures taken to adapt the public transport to people with disabilities and children.

Ljubljana has also been selected as a host of the CIVITAS Forum 2015 due to the Green Capital of Europe 2016 title, the highest recognition of the European Commission in the field of sustainable mobility, received by Ljubljana in June in Copenhagen; and the European Mobility Week 2013 – Ljubljana being the only city to have received the award twice.

The city of Ljubljana has been a member of the CIVITAS Forum since 2005, and the hosting of the annual CIVITAS Forum conference will coincide with the 10th anniversary of its membership. In those years, Ljubljana has participated in two CIVITAS initiative projects (ELAN and MOBILIS) and taken 24 measures within the network.

The CIVITAS Forum is a network of cities which strive for development of sustainable urban mobility. It has been active since 2013. The network comprises of over 200 European cities, some have participated in projects, co-financed by the European Commission with the CIVITAS initiative, and some have been following the directives and policies promoted by the CIVITAS Forum in the area of sustainable mobility.
