Comprehensive Transport Strategy

The first public web discussion within the scope of the preparation of the Comprehensive Transport Strategy of the City of Ljubljana is concluded.

The first public web discussion on the Comprehensive Transport Strategy of the City of Ljubljana ended on 11 January 2017.
The participation of different public spheres exceeded all expectations as about 1,100 opinions, proposals, initiatives and ideas on current traffic arrangements and improvements thereof were collected in the three weeks. During the first web discussion most initiatives on the Comprehensive Transport Strategy portal aimed at cycling (389), many of them involved walking (223) and motor traffic (236), while there were slightly fewer initiatives on public passenger traffic (179) and still traffic (85).
The detailed analysis of the data is still being conducted, but in general sustainability oriented proposals are predominant. For instance, numerous participants expressed their wish for the creation of additional safe connections for pedestrians and cyclists and further adaptation of the internal road ring for non-motorised traffic.
Many noted they were pleased with the renovation of Slovenska Street and other initiatives mainly refer to specific locations in Ljubljana.

In December, a workshop was held with key stakeholders from the city administration, public companies and institutions of the City of Ljubljana where the participants confirmed the vision, starting points and principles of the transport policy of the City of Ljubljana. They have concluded that based on the current achievements in the field of sustainable mobility ¬– that until 2020 one third of journeys should be made on foot or by bicycle, one third by public transport and one third by car –it would be sensible to open a new discussion on the set goals, especially involving the expert public.
Namely, considering the data in the Research of travel habits in the City of Ljubljana and the Ljubljana Urban Region (2013) we have already exceeded the set goal for one third of journeys to be made on foot or by bicycle, and this was done by reducing the number of car journeys.
We are pleased with the strong participation in the public web survey on the Comprehensive Transport Strategy portal especially because we will be able to use the proposals gathered to find even better solutions for the traffic challenges.

We invite the citizens and visitors to the city to continue with their active participation in the creation of the comprehensive transport strategy and by doing so they can contribute to the improvement of the quality of life in Ljubljana – European Green Capital 2016.
