Defibrillators save lives

The City of Ljubljana has equipped different locations throughout the city with 43 automated external defibrillators – portable electronic devices that can diagnose cardiac arrests and are able to restart the heart with an electrical surge.

The key element in cardiac arrest is immediate assistance, so it is of utmost importance to be aware of the location of a nearest defibrillator to assist an individual with a cardiac arrest and save their life!
If an automated external defibrillator (AED) is applied after basic resuscitation process and 3–5 minutes into the cardiac arrest, the victim has more than 50 % chances of surviving. It is the reason every single passer-by has a key role when encountering an individual with cardiac arrest.

22 defibrillators are located in special containers on the side of buildings with Offices for Local Self-Government; 13 devices on buildings with the City of Ljubljana offices; 2 mobile defibrillators are set up in the City of Ljubljana Office for Local Self-Government business vehicles; and 6 of those have been located in the City of Ljubljana Traffic Warden Service since 2010.

Future plans include 6 additional defibrillators in special containers on the side of buildings with Offices for Local Self-Government.
