Deputy Mayor Dejan Crnek again elected into PAC CIVITAS

At the CIVITAS Forum 2018, held between 19 and 21 September 2018 in a Swedish town Umeǻ, Deputy Mayor Dejan Crnek was again elected into the Political Advisory Committee (PAC) of the CIVITAS initiative.

It is a two-year mandate and his address after the election the Deputy Mayor announced an additional expansion of the CIVITAS network of cities (currently it includes over 300 cities) and emphasised the role of the Political Advisory Committee as a unifying link between cities and the European Commission in the field of sustainable mobility in the urban environment. He added that he is going to strive to ensure European financing for the operation of CIVINET networks which are of immense importance for the dissemination of good practises in this area.

Among the twelve CIVINET networks in the European Union the most numerous and active is the CIVINET network Slovenia – Croatia – South-Eastern Europe which was established in 2013 on the initiative of the City of Ljubljana

About the CIVITAS initiative

CIVITAS is an initiative of the European Commission in operation since 2002 dedicated to demonstration projects in cities with the Directorate-General for Energy and Transport as its coordinator. Its aim is testing of innovative strategies in city traffic contributing to the implementation of European policies in the field of transport, efficient energy use and alternative resources in traffic as well as environmental protection. The demonstration projects unite transport policy measures and technologies.

Ljubljana took part in two projects of the CIVITAS initiative (ELAN and MOBILIS) and introduced 24 measures within its framework contributing to the development of sustainable mobility and the change of traveling habits in Ljubljana.
