Development of electromobility in the city of ljubljana
On Tuesday 17 July 2012, a workshop took place within the scope of the CIVITAS ELAN project on strategies for the development of electromobility in the City of Ljubljana.
Workshop participants learned about the City of Ljubljana's strategic approach to the introduction of electromobility, exchanged opinions and experience related to similar projects in other cities and discussed the individual measures foreseen in the City of Ljubljana to promote the use of electric vehicles.
Private cars are the least appropriate means of transport for the city as they take up so much public space when driving and parked, and currently the dominant vehicle with the internal combustion engine is responsible for heavy air pollution and increases in annoying noise. In line with the principles of sustainable mobility in cities, the City of Ljubljana would like to replace the existing transport system with more energy efficient, less environmentally damaging, less space consuming and healthier forms of transport. Therefore, as many journeys as possible around Ljubljana must be done on foot, by bike or by public transport – and where these are not possible, we must use modern vehicles that damage the environment to the least possible extent during the journey.
Electric vehicles produce significantly less noise and local pollution than vehicles with petrol or diesel engines. They are particularly appropriate for urban use with a lot of stopping, waiting and starting. At the same time, electromobility – the use of electric vehicles – can, linked to clean electricity production, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus help in the fight against global climate change.
The City of Ljubljana is aware of the advantages of using electric vehicles in urban traffic, and therefore has decided to promote their use. Within the scope of the CIVITAS ELAN project it has, in partnership with Etrel d.o.o., drafted a basic Strategy for the Development of Electromobility in the City of Ljubljana, which is to form the basis for action by the City of Ljubljana in the field of electromobility.
