As part of marking 9 May, Ljubljana City Holiday, Mayor Zoran Janković unveiled the statue of the Honorary Citizen Dr France Bučar.

The esteemed professor Dr France Bučar was one of the most piercing Slovenian intellectuals, a national liberation fighter and advocate for the independence of Slovenia, the father of the Slovenian constitution, the first president of the Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia from 1990 till 1992, an active member of the Slovene PEN Centre and the president of the Slovenian Paneuropean Movement for over 20 years.

In 2009 he received the Honorary Citizen of Ljubljana title.
