Earth hour
The City of Ljubljana has once again this year participated alongside some of the public institutions and companies in the international environmental initiative Earth Hour.
Following buildings switched off their lights on Saturday 29 March between 20:30 and 21:30:
- the Ljubljana Castle switched off its outdoor lighting,
- the Plečnik's Arcades at the Ljubljana central Market,
- the lights at the Plečnik's cemetery Žale, which throw light on the Plečnik's Arcades were switched off,
- the Ljubljana Festival switched off the lamps on the Križanke wall overlooking the Trg Francoske Revolucije,
- the Ljubljana Passenger Transport has turned off the outdoor lighting of the company's administrative building,
- the Energetika Ljubljana company, specifically the TE-TOL unit, has switched off the lights at the administrative building, the parking units, and the building at Verovškova Ulica 62,
- the Vodovod-Kanalizacija public company has switched off the lights at its administrative building on Vodovodna Cesta 90,
- the Javni Holding Ljubljana company has switched off the lights on Verovškova Ulica 70.
The Earth Hour is a global initiative against the environmental change introduced by the World Wide Fund for Nature Australia (WWF) organisation in 2007. Today, Earth Hour is a global movement of 5,251 cities in 135 countries on every continent.
Ljubljana has participated in the project three years consecutively.
