Eduardo sanchez rugeles at city hall

At City Hall on 1 March 2013, Deputy Mayor Tjaša Ficko welcomed Venezuelan writer Eduardo Sanchez Rugeles, one of whose novels is entitled 'Ljubljana'.

Eduardo Sánchez Rugeles' novel Ljubljana tells the story of Gabriel Guerrero, a Venezuelan working in Spain, who recalls his childhood in one of the neighbourhoods of Carácas, where during a children's game the name Ljubljana came up by chance. One of his friends asked “What's the capital of Slovenia?”, to which Gabriel replied “Ljubljana”. Carla, his friend's sister, then exclaimed “What a wonderful name!” and said later that one day she would like to visit the city. Gabriel then promised that one day they would meet in the city with the wonderful name. But years passed before Gabriel and Carla’s paths crossed again. Meanwhile Gabriel had married and found a job with an important NGO, but was not happy in either his job or his marriage. Years later, he and Carla spoke seriously about meeting each other on Dragon Bridge and spending some time romantically in Ljubljana, which Gabriel threw himself into wholeheartedly, transforming his life dramatically.
The Venezuelan author was visiting Ljubljana as part of the Fabula – Literature of the World festival which is running for the 10th consecutive year.
