EMW Coordinators at City Hall

The meeting of Slovenian European Mobility Week 2015 coordinators was held on 2 April, 2015 at the City Hall.

Mayor Zoran Janković addressed about 100 participants of the event and reminded them Ljubljana is the only city to receive the award twice for its achievements in the field of sustainable mobility and successful implementation of the European Mobility Week. Despite that we are still striving for better quality of life. The most prominent project is the Slovenska Cesta revamp. "We are not pondering on what cannot be done, but looking for solutions" was pointed by the Mayor, who expressed a desire to seek out a solution for the integrated public transportation ticket alongside the Ministry. We wish for as little as possible motor vehicles in the city, while there are still 120,000 cars driving into the city every working day. He pointed out the successful implementation of the Public Transportation (LPP) extended suburban lines, which are still receiving numerous appraisals.

This year's European Mobility Week will be themed “Choose. Monitor. Unite.” It prioritises the perspective of health due to the data on obesity due to lack of movement and its increase in heart disease. Health professionals, who have put some light on the connection between our commuting habits and health at the event, agree that even 30 minutes of walking or cycling per day to work or running errands is enough to considerably decrease the risk. The EMW 2015 will focus on combining sustainable commuting methods, and special emphasis will be on cycling and regional connection among the municipalities for encouraging sustainable mobility.

The City of Ljubljana has taken this opportunity to present dome of its "green" achievements to the attendees, alongside the successful implementation of the EMW 2014 activities by showing a video, which was filmed as part of the EMW 2013 award.
