European Circular Economy Month

Within the framework of the European Circular Economy Month, held between 17 October and 17 November, Ljubljana, European Green Capital 2016 is putting the spotlight on some of the good practice cases and announcing the EUROCITIES General Assembly it is hosting this year.

Circular economy in Ljubljana

Since Ljubljana embarked on the sustainable city development path a decade ago and our measures and efforts for ensuring the quality life in a well-managed, green, clean and environment friendly city were awarded last year with the prestigious title Ljubljana, European Green Capital, we have made another step further. In addition to sustainable values we have introduced the promotion of circular economy. We are namely convinced that in future the shift from linear to circular economy will have a significant impact on the whole social order and the change in our mentality. If we learn to use and consume less, to reuse things and continue to follow the sharing economy principles, we and our environment will come out as winners.
The City Administration and Ljubljana’s public companies and institutes are promoting good practices, therefore we already have numerous examples of circular economy, among the most notable are the processing of Japanese knotweed into paper, the socially responsible campaign against plastic bags I’m not lasting, but therefore less annoying (Nisem večna, sem pa zato manj tečna) and the awareness-raising campaign on alien species Gloves on! (Rokavice gor!), the bicycle rental system BicikeLJ and the first e-library of ethical designer clothing and fashion accessories Kabiné Šerinjon.
These are just a few circular economy examples in Ljubljana, you can see more on the City of Ljubljana website.
