European Forum on Urban Forestry

On 1 June 2016, the 19th European Forum on Urban Forestry annual conference opened at the Ljubljana Castle within the framework of the European Green Week.

The European Forum on Urban Forestry brings together policy makers, managers and scientists who are active in the field of urban forestry, urban greening and green infrastructure. They meet annually to discuss new developments as well as exchange experiences and good practice cases.
The forum is co-organised by the Slovenian Forestry Institute, the Slovenia Forest Service, the City of Ljubljana and the City of Celje, and over 80 scientists, researchers and experts from around the world are taking part in it.
In his welcome address to the participants Deputy Mayor Dejan Crnek stated that Ljubljana, also thanks to urban forests and park areas, will remain the most beautiful city in the world. Next Nataša Jazbinšek Seršen, Head of the Department for Environmental Protection, presented a host of measures in the field of protection of the environment, restoration of degraded areas and creating new park areas in Ljubljana, European Green Capital 2016.
In addition, the forum participants went on a tour of city forests, parks, the Experimental Forest and other green infrastructure and saw some of the great natural solutions which earned Ljubljana the title European Green Capital 2016.
