In the Central Atrium of the City Hall, the exhibition We create with heart is on display until 17 November 2022 as one of the accompanying events of the European Women's Handball Championship, which is also held in the Stožice hall.

The central themes of the championship mentioned above are women's empowerment in sports and the event's organization in line with sustainable principles related to circular economy practices.

In Ljubljana, where we committed to the sustainable development of the city already in 2007, we also invited children from Ljubljana kindergartens and elementary schools to participate in this occasion. We prepared the Women's Handball art competition, in which the children used paper made from an invasive alien plant, Japanese knotweed, made by hand in Paplab (which operates under the umbrella of the public waste management company JP Voka Snaga).

The exhibition was opened by the Deputy Mayor and ambassador of the championship Tjaša Ficko, who highlighted the importance of connecting and working for a common goal. »The greatest satisfaction comes from the results when we join forces«, she emphasized, and at the same time, announced that we will move the exhibition to the Stožice hall during the final matches and thus put the drawings on display for all visitors, fans and guests who will watch the handball players' battles for the title of European champions. The Deputy Mayor encouraged the participating children always to follow their goals and dreams. »We must always cooperate and never give up, then we can do anything«, added Tjaša Ficko.

The new trees remind us of the European Handball Championship

As part of the European Women's Handball Championship, we planted new trees at Miran Jarc Primary School together with the representatives of the Slovenian Handball Association, thereby supporting the sustainable organization of the mentioned championship. We planted a total of 16 apple trees, which is the number of national teams playing in the championship.

 

We also set up a wooden plaque next to each tree, painted with the flag of the participating national teams. The tree representing the Slovenian national team was jointly planted by Mayor Zoran Janković and President of the Handball Association of Slovenia Franjo Bobinac.
