Exhibition of illustrations by ančka gošnik godec
Until Sunday 12 February 2012, the Kresija Gallery plays host to an exhibition of children’s illustrations by Ančka Gošnik Godec from a picture book by Polonca Kovač entitled "Little Witch’s Herbs".
The exhibition is part of the 4th Ljubljana festival of cultural – artistic education Bobri 2012, which runs between 28 January and 11 February 2012.
Ančka Gošnik Godec is one of the best known and most popular Slovene illustrators of the second half of the 20th century, who with her fantasy images where there is no lack of subtle humour surprises us even today with new original images of fairy tales and other stories, poems, greetings cards and TV picture books.
She has created a genuine picture cycle for Polonca Kovač’s ‘Little Witch’s Herbs’ book. With Lenčka the witch, a proper little encyclopaedia is spread out before the reader and viewer of medicinal and poisonous herbs, little bottles and other indispensible aids to herbalism. Portrayed here with documentary precision and outstanding botanical knowledge are countless little details that remind us of pressed flowers between yellowed pages, granny’s attic and the hidden caves and cottages of old witches that nobody knew about if they didn’t know how to cast a spell as well as how to heal. Among the settings it certainly takes greatest inspiration from the world around Lake Bohinj where she has spent her summers for many years and also got to know ancient mythical creatures in the countryside.
You are warmly welcome to take a look around the exhibition of children’s illustrations by Ančka Gošnik Godec from the Little Witch’s Herbs picture book at the Kresija Gallery on Stritarjeva ulica.
