Until Sunday 25 March, the glass atrium at Ljubljana City Hall is the venue of an exhibition entitled ‘Insects’ Whys’ of illustrations from a picture book by internationally acclaimed illustrator Lila Prap.

The Insects' Whys picture book, published by Mladinska knjiga last year, is the fourth in a series called ‘Whys’.

Well-known Slovene illustrator Lila Prap, whose real name is Lilijana Praprotnik Zupančič, adopted her artistic name when she began to arouse interest in her books from foreign publishers and has since become famous worldwide.

The purpose of the picture books from the ‘Whys’ series is popular science, but the result is also exceptional aesthetic value, fun and humour. Lila’s very special original style has been accepted and printed in books in Japan, Europe and as far away as South America and Australia. Lila’s cosmopolitanism is hard to find in the Slovenian tradition, but it has now become an important part of her and she is being successfully validated around the world, where originality and quality are rare but valuable properties.
