February, Local Self-sufficiency Month

Ljubljana, European Green Capital, has entered the second month of the green year dedicated to local self-sufficiency. This theme is the common thread of the programme at the information office Point. For you. and of the green ambassador – the District Community Šmarna gora.

In Ljubljana, European Green Capital 2016, we have made the highest number of changes with regard to quality of life in the shortest time, in the opinion of the European Commission. Already in 2007 with the creation of the Vision Ljubljana 2025 we have embarked on the path of sustainable city development and are pursuing set goals within its framework – ensuring quality of life for all the residents of our clean, safe, green and orderly city.
The title is of great importance to Ljubljana as it puts us on the European and global map of sustainable cities, and at the same time, we are the only city in Central and South-East Europe to receive this prestigious title.

Point.For you.

We are marking the green year with a year-round programme, divided into theme months, and February is dedicated to local self-sufficiency. During this month the daily activities at the information office Point. For you., which is set up in front of the City Hall, are prepared by the Department for Environmental Protection in the City Administration of the City of Ljubljana in cooperation with kindergartens, schools and other stakeholders.
Among other events they are offering different lectures and weekly thematic consultation hours (on the topic of soil fertilisation, fruit growing, organic sustainable farming and homeopathy, vegetable growing…) On 17 February, they are going to present projects of the City of Ljubljana in the field of self-sufficiency, and every Friday you are invited to presentations of local professional societies (fruit growers, gardeners, beekeepers…, while on Saturdays you can buy local produce and products at the information point.

In February the Point. For you. is open from 10.00 till 18.00.
The complete programme of the Point. For you. is published at the website www.greenljubljana.com and at the information point.

District communities – European Green Capital 2016 ambassadors

District communities of the City of Ljubljana are actively involved in the green capital programme, each of them acting as a green ambassador of the project for three weeks to the end of the year. On 31 January, the first green ambassador – the District Community Črnuče passed the baton of ambassadorship to its successor – the District Community Šmarna gora.
The activities organised by the District Community Šmarna gora during next three weeks fall under the topic of local self-sufficiency. The residents of the district community can visit RCERO Ljubljana, and Tacen and Gameljne are organising local markets offering local produce, home-made products and arts and crafts items.
The complete programme of the District Community Šmarna gora is published at the website www.greenljubljana.com.
