Festival of letters

The first Festival of Letters, which revives the ancient knowledge of book printing, runs at the Kresija Gallery until 8.8.2010 as part of the Ljubljana – World Book Capital 2010 festival.

Through its displays of the printing press, guided tours, workshops, lectures and showcasing good design, the festival intends to promote technically high-quality printing (letterpress), to reawaken and recall ancient knowledge and to caution about the range of occupations that are fading into oblivion as they are replaced by the computer.

Throughout the month in the printing works there is to be printing with lead and wooden movable characters describing the printing process and equipment, and a series of parallel events is to be organised. Visits to the printing works are possible from 10am to 9pm every day during the festival.

The Festival, as part of which there is also to be a book printing workshop, was opened on Thursday 8 July 2010 by Dr Milena Mileva Blažić, city councillor and member of Ljubljana City Council's Board of Culture.
