Forum of the world alliance of cities against poverty
At the eighth Forum of the World Alliance of Cities against Poverty, which took place in Dublin in February, the City of Ljubljana was given an award for its outstanding contribution to sustainable and inclusive urban development.
The 8th Forum of the World Alliance of Cities against Poverty (WACAP), organised by the City of Dublin and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was held under the theme of 'Making Cities Smart, Safe and Sustainable'. From Slovenia, a representative of the City of Ljubljana attended, who showcased the programmes for digital literacy among the elderly that run under the City of Ljubljana's umbrella.
Due to our commitment the Millennium Development Goals – Ljubljana signed up to them in the year 2000 – and policies to tackle the deepening of poverty in the city, the UNDP gave the City of Ljubljana an award for its outstanding contribution to sustainable and inclusive urban development. The award emphasises the city's commitment to the battle against poverty. For Ljubljana the award is therefore both an encouragement and an undertaking that in times when social care is fragile and the economic situation is uncertain, all our efforts are oriented into programmes that give citizens of every generation dignified and full lives.
