Free rides with Urban

On 1 May 2016, the electric train Urban started its trial period. The test rides from Stritar Street to the Ljubljana Castle are offered free-of-charge, presumably till end May.

The electric train Urban drives every day with its starting stop at the City Hall from where it departs towards the Ljubljana Castle at 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 16.00, 17.00 and 18.00. Departures from the Ljubljana Castle are scheduled at 12.20, 13.20, 14.20, 16.20, 17.20 and 18.30.
The period of free-of-charge rides with Urban is part of the introductory phase before the start of its regular operation, therefore changes of the schedule and the route are possible. Changes are updated on the website www.lpp.si.
The introduction of the electric train is part of the sustainable strategy of the City of Ljubljana and the public passenger transport company Ljubljanski potniški promet (LPP) which includes the modernisation of LPP’s fleet with electric vehicles that are going to operate principally in the centre of Ljubljana.
The technologically advanced train Urban is comprised of a towing vehicle and three trailers with an overall length of 19 m. In winter the trailers are closed and have heating, while in summer the windows can open. The trailers with wooden chairs are equipped like city buses in line with sustainable practices of Ljubljana – European Green Capital 2016.
The electric train Urban, which was developed by the company Ljubljanski potniški promet and Slovenian electromobility expert Miro Zorč at the company STOJA, inovacije in proizvodnja d.o.o., acquired its white and green appearance in cooperation with the designer Maja Licul and Deputy Mayor Prof Janez Koželj. In future this appearance is going to distinctly mark all electric vehicles in LPP's fleet.
In addition, the circular route of the environmentally friendly zero-emissions vehicle is going to connect the main city attractions within the city centre and further beyond. This will increase the tourist value of somewhat more remote areas and contribute to the development of Ljubljana as a sustainable tourist destination.
