Greenest local authority

On 31 January 2012, the City of Ljubljana was proclaimed "Greenest Local Authority 2011" among urban local authorities.

On Tuesday 31 January at Ljubljana City Hall, the winners of ‘Greenest Local Authorities 2011’ were announced. This is the second year running that the competition has been organised by the Fit media d.o.o. company under the Green Slovenia trademark in partnership with the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, the Association of Municipalities of Slovenia and the Association of Municipalities and Towns of Slovenia.

The local authorities taking part in this competition demonstrated their commitment to responsible environmental management, competing in categories of waste management, water, energy, communication and awareness-raising as well as sustainable transport.

There were 28 Slovenian local authorities competing for the title of Greenest Local Authority 2011, of which four were urban local authorities, 14 municipalities with over 5,000 residents and 10 authorities in the class of up to 5,000 residents.
