Healthy ageing cities network

City of Ljubljana representatives took part in a meeting of the Healthy Ageing sub network of the European Healthy Cities network in Udine on 18 and 19 October 2012.

The City of Ljubljana has been a member of the World Health Organisation’s European Healthy Cities network since its inception in 1989. Some years ago the project grew into a five-phase programme. Ljubljana is currently in the fifth programme phase, which lasts from 2009 to 2013. The Healthy Ageing sub network was set up this year and Ljubljana is a member.

The Udine meeting was led by Manfred Huber, the Healthy Ageing co-ordinator for WHO Europe, and Geoff Green, expert adviser to the network, with more than 20 network members participating. In addition to the experts, several political representatives of individual cities also participated.

An active role was also played at the meeting by the City of Ljubljana’s representative Tanja Hodnik, who showcased the system of family help at home in Ljubljana. Her presentation was well received, with participants expressing, among other things, the desire to see co-operation between cities and the exchange of good practice cases in the field of care for the elderly.
