Hostel Celica - World's First Certified Sustainably-Oriented Hostel

Within the framework of the European Green Week, Hostel Celica has been awarded the prestigious GoldTravelife certification thus becoming the first certified sustainably-oriented hostel in the world.

Along with some of Ljubljana's restaurants and hotels, Hostel Celica is among the first to be involved in a pilot project carried out by the Ljubljana Tourism tourist organisation in collaboration with the City of Ljubljana, the GoodPlace group for sustainable tourism and the Jarina co-operative, for the supply of hotels and restaurants with locally grown food - Green Supply Chains. The project aims to offer hoteliers and restaurants in the region of Central Slovenia a simple and organised purchase to 100 per cent locally, and when this is not possible, regionally or nationally produced food at reasonable prices. Green chains supply institutions, organisations and businesses with local food arriving to guests by the shortest routes possible.
Sustainable settings are an exceptional and indispensable asset to Ljubljana – European Green Capital 2016. This prestigious title is an incentive for Ljubljana Tourism to strengthen the efforts made as well as to make new efforts in the tourism sector in order to attract more guests to Ljubljana, who will be looking for quality green content and accommodation. The Travelife certification received by Hostel Celica as the world's first, is of utmost importance for Ljubljana, as it positions our city - in addition to the "TourismforTomorrow 2015" prize which was already won - on the global map with sustainable settings. Tourism Ljubljana is particularly proud that Ljubljana has acquired settings in the youth tourism segment, and believes this will be a powerful incentive for the other partners in the field of tourism. This year, Ljubljana will in fact have acquired seven more Travelife certified hotels.
