How can cities be made cycle-friendly?
On Friday 24 May 2013, the City Museum of Ljubljana was the venue of a seminar on ‘How can cities be made cycle-friendly?
The bike is a mode of transport that is good for your health, environment and urban space, and in cities it is also often the quickest. Because of traditional methods of traffic planning, which first and foremost give priority to motor vehicles, in many places cycling is unpleasant and even dangerous. Cities that have given priority to cycling in recent decades are today top of the list in terms of high quality of life. Nowadays, the number of places that would like to become cycle-friendly is rapidly increasing.
Those involved in the CHAMP and Mobile2020 projects have studied and upgraded cycling policies and measures in the field of cycling in urban areas and have broadened knowledge on good practice in designing cycling spaces in diverse ways. At the seminar, they also showcased project results to date and linked them to plans and possibilities to transform Slovenian towns and cities into cycle-friendly places.
