The Honorary Citizen of Ljubljana Prof. Emer. Dr. Ljubo Bavcon, distinguished scientist, university pedagogue and publicist.

Prof. Emer. Dr. Ljubo Bavcon received the title of Honorary Citizen of Ljubljana in 2014 when we wrote in the justification that we award him the title as a tribute to a humanist and scientist who dedicated all his professional, pedagogical and journalistic work to social transformation, in which the values of democracy, separation of powers, tolerance, the rule of law and effective legal protection of human rights should apply. With his experience in the national liberation struggle and his military imprisonment in Italy and Germany, he set the highest civilizational standards in Slovenia already during the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia by opposing the death penalty. Prof. Dr. Ljubo Bavcon is a pioneer predecessor of the Ombudsman, one of the first to draw attention to the erased and chair the Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms for many years.

We will keep Prof. Emer. Dr. Ljubo Bavcon in respectful memory.
