Inspiring young natural scientists

The Slovenian team of young natural scientists, which included students from Šmartno pod Šmarno goro Primary School and Oskar Kovačič Primary School, achieved excellent results at the 20th International Junior Science Olympiad in Bangkok.

Andraž Čadež, a 9th-grade student at Šmartno pod Šmarno goro Primary School, and Niko Habinc, a 9th-grade student at Oskar Kovačič Primary School, returned from Bangkok with silver medals.

There were 304 young people from 54 countries participating in the Olympiad. They competed in finding solutions to interdisciplinary tasks in natural sciences – biology, chemistry and physics. All sciences were represented relatively equally in the competition. On one competition day, the Olympians were answering theoretical multiple-choice questions for three hours, on the second competition day, they had three hours for theoretical calculation questions, and on the third competition day, they were solving the practical experimental part for three hours.

The Slovenian team, counting six members, won a total of one gold medal, four silver medals and one bronze medal. These achievements made them the third most successful team from Europe, only the teams from Germany and Hungary were slightly better.
We sincerely congratulate all young natural scientists and their mentors!
