International conference of european cities it users

The City of Ljubljana and the Association of Major Cities of Europe organised an International Conference of European Cities’ IT users, which ran from 3 to 5 June 2013 at Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The Association of Major Cities of Europe is an independent association of IT service managers, IT managers and heads of IT departments in various cities that have organised meetings for the past 31 years at which they showcase cities’ technological development, news from the field of cities’ technological development and the development of the cities themselves to the global general public. This year’s meeting, hosted by the City of Ljubljana, saw participation from over 200 attendees; mainly IT heads from European cities, representatives of international IT corporations and various other IT profiles.

The future of cities depends on the success of the ways in which we improve the lives of our residents; information and telecommunication technologies and related solutions are an important contributor to achieving these objectives.

The plenary session in the first day of the conference (3 June 2013) was devoted to showcasing City of Ljubljana news and projects, which have made significant progress in the field of new implementations in IT and solutions to the benefit of its citizens in recent years.

The central theme of this year’s conference was ‘ICT Fostering Cities' Prosperity’, upon which the speakers were Eduardo Moreno (UN Habitat), Manuel Sanroma (Barcelona), Blaž Golob (Ljubljana Forum), Pier Francesco Ghetti (Venice) and Giorgio Prister (President of the Association of Major Cities of Europe).

Conference participants were addressed by Deputy Mayor Tjaša Ficko at 2pm on Monday 3 June 2013 and that evening Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković was the host of a gala reception for them at Ljubljana Castle.

Further information about the conference and its programme is available at its official website.
