International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Every year Ljubljana celebrates 27 January, International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The theme of this year's commemoration is Memory, Dignity and Justice.

In the City of Ljubljana, in cooperation with the Jewish Cultural Centre and the Minitheatre, we commemorate Jewish fellow citizens by laying stumbling stones, commemorative stones for all who were exiled from the city to concentration camps.

The project of placing commemorative markings into the pavement, the so-called stumbling stones – Stolpersteine, initiated by German artist Günter Demnig to commemorate Holocaust victims, has been running in Ljubljana since 2018, and so far, we have laid 68 stumbling stones at various locations around Ljubljana, seven of  The program will start at noon in the Minitheatre with a screening of the film Grandmother, followed by a talk in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and at 19:00 a tribute to all Slovenian Holocaust victims by reading their names. The event will end at 20:00 with the performance titled The Jewish Dog
