On Wednesday 11 July 2012, Mayor Zoran Janković held an official reception at City Hall for Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and his wife Clio.
The Presidential couple took the opportunity to sign the City of Ljubljana's Golden Book, whereupon there was a symbolic exchange of gifts.
President Giorgio Napolitano and his wife Clio were on an official visit to Slovenia on 10 and 11 July 2012. During their time in Slovenia, they met the President of Slovenia Dr Danilo Türk, Speaker of Parliament Dr Gregor Virant and Prime Minister Janez Janša. Mr Napolitano became the first President of another nation to address the Slovenian National Assembly.
Giorgio Napolitano has been Italian President since 2006. He was elected for a seven-year period in a secret ballot of both houses of parliament in the fourth round of voting.
In 1964, Ljubljana concluded friendship agreements with Parma and Pesaro. Since 2008, when a memorandum was signed intended to strengthen ties, Ljubljana and Trieste have worked well together in many fields, including tourism, culture and university education. Thus, Ljubljana and its rich summer cultural menu were showcased at a press conference in Trieste at the end of May this year.
