Joint care for city trees
The Arbor Day Foundation, which in cooperation with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, has recognized Ljubljana as a "Tree City of the World", is celebrating 50 years of operation.
In Ljubljana, we received the title Tree City within the Tree Cities of the World program twice in a row, namely, in 2019 and 2020, making us one of 120 cities from 63 countries with this title.
The Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) award the recognition each year, encouraging cities to take care of their trees.
Cities holding the title Tree City are committed to caring for trees and forests in and around cities. In Ljubljana, we also mark this commitment by announcing the Tree of the Year, which raises awareness of the importance of trees and their contribution to the quality of life in the city.
