Kino Šiška’s 3rd birthday

Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture saw the curtain go up on its fourth season of activities with a grand three-day celebration.

Events around the opening of the new season got underway on Thursday 20 September, with the Slovenian premiere of a documentary performance retrospective tracing the prolific career of Marina Abramović entitled The Artist is Present. Friday 21 September saw the opening of the photographic exhibition ‘Black and White World’ on the façade of UE Šiška and a concert by the duo Silence. A day later the party wound up in the cycling world. On the final day of European Mobility Week, Kino Šiška organised a cycling fest with the showcase of a fixed-gear bike and the premiere of documentary film Cycle me home.

In its third season (2011/2012), Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture played host to nearly 320 events, attracting 66,000 visitors. Altogether, the central programme comprised 128 concerts by domestic and foreign artists, 14 dance and theatre shows and nine intermedia projects. Kino Šiška’s third season’s accompanying free-of-charge programme served up 21 exhibitions, 45 film screenings, 12 fashion reviews, 24 workshops, 13 literary evenings, 20 lectures, three artistic residencies, eight festivals and 18 ‘co-workings’.

Since September 2009, when Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture threw its doors open, almost 800 events have taken place, visited by 190,000 culture vultures.
