Leaflet on pile dwellings on ljubljana marshes

A leaflet has been published featuring information on the pile-dwelling culture on Ljubljana Marshes.

As part of preparations for the entry of pile dwellings on Ljubljana Marshes onto UNESCO's World Heritage List, a leaflet has been published with basic information on the pile-dwelling culture on Ljubljana Marshes.

The leaflet has been prepared by Ljubljana Marshes Landscape Park in partnership with the City Museum of Ljubljana, the National Museum of Slovenia, the Ministry of Culture and the Slovenian National UNESCO Commission. The leaflet is published in Slovene and English versions and a copy of it can be ordered via the landscape park's website - info@ljubljanskobarje.si.

The Ljubljana Marshes area has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age, when settlers constructed pile dwellings – homes on piles. The first remains of these dwellings were discovered as early as 1875, while in 2002 what is currently the oldest wooden wheel in the world was discovered. Two groups of pile dwellings on Ljubljana Marshes have been included in a transnational joint nomination for entry onto the UNESCO list.

A decision on the entry of the pile dwellings on Ljubljana Marshes onto the UNESCO list is expected to be adopted at the end of June at a meeting of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in Paris.
