Within the framework of the Bee Path which last year came to life in Ljubljana, this spring the campaign »Let’s help the city bee – plant window box and balcony flowers« is underway so the citizens of Ljubljana themselves can also contribute to the preservation of the native honey bee as well as its complex and extremely important role in nature.

The campaign conceived by the City of Ljubljana and BTC in cooperation with partners Hofer, Merkur, Semenarna/Kalia, Medex and Minicity appeals to the citizens of Ljubljana to plant their window boxes with honey plants and by doing so help the city bees.
This year’s campaign builds upon the 2014 project »Let’s help the city bee« which first introduced in an organised manner the idea of moving bees into the city. In the past few years quite a few bee houses were set up, either by private owners or by individual companies, and especially kindergartens and schools. For the bees to have enough grazing areas and to produce more honey we have to continue and increase our efforts.
By planting honey plants which are also native to this area we can all help the bees and the environment in a simple and lovely way, not just the beekeepers. By doing so we can contribute to the preservation of the Slovenian bee and native plant species, and the view of the city in flower will certainly make many hearts jump with joy.

The beekeeping tradition in Ljubljana and its outskirts goes back to the time of first prehistoric settlements, and the honey produced in the area of the City of Ljubljana is of very high quality. The analyses conducted in reference laboratories have shown that the honey in Ljubljana is pure, and therefore Ljubljana can be proud of its high-quality environment.
