Ljubljana. Accessible to all.

At the December session of the City Council of the City of Ljubljana, the councillors adopted an action plan titled Ljubljana. Accessible to all. which serves as the basis for further improving the accessibility of the city for people with disabilities and the elderly in the period up to 2025.

Ensuring accessibility is integrated into all areas of operation of the City of Ljubljana, especially spatial planning, transport infrastructure development, provision of public transport and social activities such as education, culture, sports, social welfare and health. The solutions that we are introducing in Ljubljana in various areas are carefully planned and intended to ensure that everyone – regardless of personal circumstances – has the opportunity to be equally involved in city life.

Compared to other local communities in the country, the City of Ljubljana visibly stands out in this area, as shown by the latest research titled Social Inclusion and Equal Rights to Mobility for People with Disabilities, created within the project called Park Excuses Elsewhere (not in places reserved for people with disabilities). Adaptation of public space and organization of local transport is significantly better in large cities, among which the participants in the research largely highlighted Ljubljana as an example of good practice.

Not only at home, Ljubljana made it at the very top of Europe in terms of accessibility, as evidenced by our high rankings in the annual European Commission competitions "Access City Award" for cities accessible to people with disabilities and the elderly, the highest of which is the second place, that is, the silver recognition for the year 2018.

Coinciding with the adoption of the action plan, the City Council at its December session also got acquainted with the reports on the implementation of the past two action plans, the Age-Friendly Ljubljana Action Plan for the period from 2016 to 2020 and the Ljubljana for People with Disabilities Action Plan for the period from 2019 to 2020.
