Ljubljana among 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities

Ljubljana was chosen as one of the 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities within a call of the European Commission in the framework of the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission. We are pleased that the European Commission has recognized Ljubljana's ambitions and achievements so far in this area.

The call attracted applications from 377 cities. The European Commission will monitor and support selected cities in their transformation to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. The selected cities will act as experimental and innovation centers that will serve as an example for other European cities on how to achieve carbon neutrality. Each selected city will sign a contract pledging to become climate neutral by 2030. These 100 selected cities account for 12 percent of the European Union's population.

The aim of the mission is to help accelerate the progress of Europe's most ambitious cities, which will serve as inspiration for all European cities on their path to climate neutrality. The participating cities will enjoy support and advice, benefits in drawing European funds, participation in innovation activities, pilot and demonstration projects, networking opportunities, good practice exchanges and high recognisability.

In addition to Ljubljana, the municipalities of Kranj and Velenje were also chosen from Slovenia. Congratulations to them both and all other selected cities. We are pleased that 3 out of 8 Slovenian cities in the run were selected, which proves that we understand the importance of climate neutrality.
