Ljubljana fire brigade celebrates

Ljubljana Fire Brigade was set up in 1922 and is Slovenia’s oldest professional fire unit.

Ljubljana Fire Brigade marked this significant milestone on 23 October 2012 with a gala academy at Šiška cinema and with the delivery of new fire vehicles.

Four new fire vehicles were transferred into use by Mayor Zoran Janković. Ljubljana Fire Brigade received a vehicle for ecological interventions; Rudnik Volunteer Fire Association was given a new water tanker vehicle, while Šmartno ob Savi Volunteer Fire Association and Štepanjsko naselje Volunteer Fire Association received two smaller vans for crew transports.

The City of Ljubljana Public Fire Service (JGS MOL) comprises one professional and 35 volunteer fire units. Ljubljana Fire Brigade is the central fire unit in JGS MOL, thus that which is intended for primary interventions throughout the territory of Ljubljana. The volunteer fire units are organised into sectors, in which each has its own operational territory. It is important to emphasise here that volunteer fire fighting has an exceptionally long and noble tradition.
