Ljubljana fire department and social networking

The Ljubljana Fire Brigade is the first among the Slovenian fire brigades to use a social network to communicate certain announcements in case of danger. The initiative is part of the European Union project EmerGent.

The EU project EmerGent analyses social networks in existent emergency services to explore potential for further implementation of social networks in systems of protection and rescue across the EU.

The Ljubljana Fire Brigade is the first in Slovenia to use a social network to communicate certain announcements in case of danger. An example of good practice presented itself in February when the catastrophe of sleet hit Slovenia. The Ljubljana Fire Brigade believes it will continue using Twitter and Facebook to communicate important announcements with a special warning not to take those announcements on social networks as the only information source. It is undoubtedly a strong tool for communicating information and on the other hand it is very dependable on the staff capacity at the Ljubljana Fire Brigade during individual events and dangers.
