‘Ljubljana – green capital’ art competition exhibition
In City Hall’s Historical Atrium at noon on Monday 3 June 2013, Deputy Mayor Tjaša Ficko opened an exhibition of work submitted in a ‘Ljubljana – green capital’ art competition for primary schools and kindergartens.
On 25 March 2013, it was announced that the City of Ljubljana was among the four finalists competing for the title of European Green Capital 2015. The European Green Capital award is given each year to a city that has achieved high environmental standards and is committed to ambitious goals for further environmental improvements and sustainable development.
Among the activities during our candidacy for the title of European Green Capital 2015, the City of Ljubljana also ran an art competition in partnership with selected schools and kindergartens.
Children submitted works of art on seven specific themes related to Ljubljana as a green capital:
- Drinking water quality.
- The Ljubljana Snowdrop also has a bulb – the Dutch Royal General Bulb Growers' Association (KAVB) has in 2013 registered the Ljubljana Snowdrop.
- Landscape Parks – within the boundaries of the City of Ljubljana we boast four protected landscape parks.
- The path of Remembrance and Comradeship is the longest city avenue with abundant trees and memorials.
- Ljubljana features many pedestrian zones.
- City wardens on bikes.
- The use of bikes and cycling has an impact on air quality, contributing to a cleaner environment and improved human health.
The exhibition of all the artworks created by pupils of the primary schools Majda Vrhovnik, Milan Šuštaršič and Oskar Kovačič and children from the kindergartens Galjevica, Ledina and Šentvid will be on show in City Hall’s Historical Atrium until 9 June 2013. The painters of the fifteen best pictures will also be given prizes
You are warmly welcome to take a look around the exhibition.
