Ljubljana once again among the best sustainable practices in tourism

Ljubljana made it onto the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list for the ninth time. The list highlights successful, sustainable and responsible tourism practices from around the world that serve as an example to other destinations, tour operators and travellers.

We convinced the international jury with creative handicraft workshops and boutique experiences, in which participants actively get to know the still-existing traditional crafts in Ljubljana. The workshops are considered an example of regenerative tourism good practice, an approach to tourism that encourages visitors to have a positive influence on the chosen destination and contribute to its legacy.

Ljubljana Tourism designed creative handicraft workshops in cooperation with artisans, the city's culture department, the association Rajzefiber by Hiša! with the help of students involved in the pilot development program Student Studio for Sustainable Development and Innovation in Tourism at the Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica, University of Primorska.

100 most sustainable

Every year, the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories competition selects high-quality, sustainable content and good practices from tourist destinations worldwide in a public competition. Among the top hundred are those that stand out in terms of efficiency and innovation and enable transferability to other destinations. Inclusion on the list is recognition of destinations that have successfully tackled sustainable challenges, demonstrated resilience in facing them, and committed to more responsible operating. The competition has been organized by the Green Destinations organization since 2014, and Ljubljana is one of the few destinations that has entered the Top 100 list nine times already.
