Ljubljana open 2013
Stožice Stadium and Ljubljana Sports Park are set to be the twin venues of the 6th Ljubljana Open international football tournament for under-11 players, which runs from 7 to 9 June 2013.
The tournament is being organised by the Bravo football club and Bravo 1 sports agency, that have again managed to attract many prominent European names in youth football. Tournament participants are to be Bolton Wanderers from England, Groningen from the Netherlands, Rapid Vienna, last year’s champions Dinamo Zagreb, Red Star Belgrade, Slovakians MŠK Žilina, Sturm Graz, MTK Budapest and three Slovenian clubs. Alongside local clubs Bravo and Olimpija, the final name in the mix is qualification tournament winner Aluminij.
The matches get underway at 11am on Friday at Ljubljana Sports Park, with the opening ceremony taking place on the main pitch at 4.30pm. This is followed by a showcase game between teams of graduate footballers and AŠK Bravo University in Ljubljana. These are ex-professional players who are university graduates and Ljubljana University students who will play for AŠK Bravo.
Alongside the stiff competition on the football field, the Ljubljana Open features many fringe events. On Saturday morning, Bravo football club is holding an open day where budding players and their parents can have a look at a demo training session and a presentation of the club. You can also sign up for next season. The tournament also features prize draws with attractive practical prizes, with food and beverages also available.
As is already a tradition, the tournament’s final day takes place in Slovenia’s biggest stadium at Stožice. The matches to decide overall ranking start at 9am, with the tournament final kicking off at 1.30pm. This is followed by prizes and awards to the best players and the closing ceremony of the 6th Ljubljana Open.
