The Municipality of Ljubljana has received recognition of a planet-friendly municipality of 2013 in the larger municipality.

The Planet Earth (Planet Zemlja) Society has organised a fourth annual campaign The Planet-Friendly Municipality on the International Earth Day which takes place 22nd April. There are three categories: small, medium, large (population based).
The project is supported by a committee of experts from the fields of environmental awareness, forest protection, waste management, energy and fair activity. The committee gathers data on the environmental activity and local community planning.
The Municipality of Ljubljana has received the award for a responsible endeavour to protect natural endowments, improving the quality of life of its citizens and is well aware of a proper relationship towards the environment for this and the future generation.
