Ljubljana received the Slovenia Green Destination PLATINUM label, awarded by the Slovenian Tourist Board.

The Tourism Development Strategy for Ljubljana for the period 2021-2027 defines following the principle of sustainability as a key aspect. Ljubljana wants to be a global role model for urban destinations worldwide. It received numerous international awards and titles associated with sustainable tourism. Last year it was declared the best green capital in Europe, European Best Green Capital 2022, and this year the best European destination, European Best Destination 2022. Ljubljana also received the Energy Globe Award 2021 for Slovenia for the Green Supply Chain project and the Green Destinations Story Awards for the Culture Online project. Last year, for the seventh consecutive year, it was ranked among the hundred most sustainable destinations globally, and Lonely Planet ranked it among the eight most sustainable cities in the world.

The highest score among all destinations

Ljubljana received the platinum certificate of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism with a mean score of 9.3, which is also the highest score among all destinations in this series of assessments.
