Ljubljana says yes
Despite the fact the amending act on marriage and family relations which equates the right of same-sex unions with those of heterosexuals was not confirmed by the referendum, the votes cast in Ljubljana show that in our city we respect differences among us.
The referendum was held on 20 December 2015 and according to the unofficial results of the National Electoral Commission the majority voters in electoral districts under the City of Ljubljana supported the amending act.
The unofficial results show that in the electoral district Ljubljana Center in ED 4 (Ljubljana Vič Rudnik II) 54% of votes cast were YES, in ED 5 (Ljubljana Vič Rudnik III) 60%, in ED 7 (Ljubljana Center) 68.5%, in ED 8 (Ljubljana Šiška) 64%, and in ED 9 (Ljubljana Šiška II) 60% votes.
In the electoral district Ljubljana Bežigrad in ED 9 (Ljubljana Bežigrad II) 64% of votes were YES, in ED 6 (Ljubljana Moste Polje II) 51.7%, and in ED 7 (Ljubljana Moste Polje III) 53.5% of votes.
Mayor Zoran Janković thanks everyone for casting their vote and proving once again that Ljubljana is an open, tolerant and friendly city where we respect equality in diversity.
