Ljubljana the most e-mobile city in Slovenia

The assessment was carried out within the framework of the 2nd conference on e-mobility in municipalities, and Ljubljana won based on the overall mark given by the expert jury and the votes cast in an online survey.

Member of the expert jury Maša Švab (Gen-i Sonce), who ranked Ljubljana as fist, justified her decision as follows: »The City of Ljubljana really proved itself with a wide range of measures, which support sustainable mobility and are much broader then just direct e-mobility. In this regard, the P + R parking lots deserve special attention as they have been truly transformed into multimodal hubs, which support not only classic e-mobility but also micro e-mobility and the public passenger transport. In addition, the closing of the wider city centre, the high number of charging stations for electric vehicles and the first e-bus planned for 2021 serve as proof that Ljubljana is serious about sustainable policy. But there is certainly still potential for development in providing green electrical energy for all the aforementioned measures and measuring the decrease of the city’s carbon footprint, as the latter would really show the effect of the measures.«

Electromobility supported with numerous measures

The City of Ljubljana strives towards the principal aim of sustainable mobility in cities, namely, to replace the current traffic system with more energy-efficient, environment-friendly, space-saving and healthier forms of traffic in the city and the region. Already in May 2013, the Electromobility Strategy in the City of Ljubljana has been adopted, which is primarily building upon all previously adopted sustainability-oriented strategies and measures. Within the scope of the project European Green Capital 2016 we have also introduced a new car sharing system – completely electrical »car sharing« model Avant2Go using only electric vehicles. Citizens can ride with six electric vehicles Cavalier free-of-charge, the public company for passenger transport Ljubljanski potniški promet has 20 electric cars Eurban for its on-call transport service, the electric train Urban is also available and there are over 150 charging stations for electric vehicles set up on public surfaces. Among company vehicles of the city administration and public companies of the City of Ljubljana there are in addition to environment-friendly methane powered vehicles also electrical vehicles in use.
