Ljubljana to host Velo-city 2020 conference

Next year Ljubljana will host the Velo-city conference, the annual global cycling summit of the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), which will take place on June 2-5, 2020.

Ljubljana is a cycling city and we are proud that the international experts have recognized our progress in this field and that ECF has entrusted us with the organization of Velo-city conference 2020. We are convinced that urban cycling improves the quality of life in cities daily, so promoting it is one of our priorities in the area of sustainable urban development. At the conference, we will highlight the latest cycling activities, guidelines and measures. That we are on the right track, among other things, is proven by the third consecutive ranking in the Copenhagenize Index of the 20 most cycling-friendly cities in the world.

At this year's summit, which took place in Dublin from 25 to 28 June, we presented Ljubljana as the host of the next Velo-city conference. Deputy Mayor Prof. Janez Koželj actively participated in the City of Today roundtable, where he emphasized the importance of urban space sharing in cities where we share space, vehicles and buildings. We are already adapting to this model and we have been creating multi-purpose living spaces. He also highlighted our most important achievements in the field of sustainable mobility and cycling, including the arrangement of a pedestrian and bicycle area, the regulation of cycle lanes and the extremely popular bicycle rental or sharing system BicikeLJ. At the Dublin’s conference, Dublin Mayor Paul McAuliffe and ECF President and Paris Deputy Mayor Christophe Najdovski highlighted Ljubljana as one of the most proactive cities in the world in terms of transforming people-friendly spaces.
