Mayor of tirana in ljubljana

On Wednesday 5 October 2011 at City Hall Mayor Zoran Janković received Mayor of Tirana Lulzim Basha, who was visiting Ljubljana with a delegation.

The Mayor of Tirana and his delegation firstly visited Ljubljana Technology Park on Wednesday morning, and subsequently went on to Ljubljana City Hall to meet representatives of the City of Ljubljana and some of its public institutes . The discussion themes were transport and municipal infrastructure.

At 1pm, Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković received the Mayor of Tirana in City Hall’s Green Hall. The Mayor of Tirana took this opportunity to sign the City of Ljubljana’s Golden Book. Afterwards, the mayors and their delegations took a stroll around the old city centre.

The cities of Tirana and Ljubljana first established contacts in 1993, when a delegation from Ljubljana led by Jože Strgar, then Mayor of Ljubljana visited Tirana. On that visit, the mayors of the two cities signed a protocol or letter of intent on the establishment of friendship and co-operation between Ljubljana and Tirana. They mainly covered common interests and the possibilities to exchange experience in the fields of the operation of various public services in the two cities, schooling, culture, health, sport, tourism and promoting co-operation between various commercial partners.

In 1994 a City of Tirana delegation led by the then Mayor Sali Kelmendi visited Ljubljana. On this return visit by the Albanian delegation to Ljubljana, intentions to strengthen the good co-operation between the cities were confirmed. Subsequently, concrete results regarding bilateral co-operation have not materialised, but the cities have a relationship at multilateral level through the Association of Capital Cities of South Eastern European Countries.
