Meeting of Mayors of EU Capitals

Mayor Zoran Janković has responded to the invitation of the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, to attend the Meeting of the Mayors of the European Union capitals and larger cities on 25 and 26 March, 2015 in Paris.

The Mayor focused on Ljubljana as the European Green Capital 2016 and presented our main green acquirements at the meeting. Among others, he pointed out the need of cooperation among the cities and their citizens, exchange of good practice and learning from each other. The Mayor invited the Meeting participants to visit Ljubljana, the most beautiful city in the world.

The Meeting disused how local governments, especially the European Union capitals and larger cities should have the leading part within this large event; their opinions and messages are clear and they opted are not defined in their role in emission reduction of greenhouse gases. By participating at the event he cities have demonstrated a clear commitment to designing and implementing local connections and donations to fight the climate change.

The event participants have confirmed the declaration on a more sustainable urban development and greener cities, and suggested an initiative to design joined green tenders with the intention of increasing the number of low-carbon providers in that chain.

The Meeting of Mayors is part of preparation for the 21 Conference of the basic United Nations Climate Change Convention Parties (COP21), which will take place in December this year in Paris.
