On the eve of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's independence, which is celebrated on 25 June, Mayor Zoran Janković unveiled a monument to the defenders of the city of Ljubljana in 1991 on the Youth Work Brigades Square.

The keynote speaker at the event was the first President of the Republic of Slovenia Milan Kučan.

The monument, the work of sculptors Metka Zupanič and Lada Sedlaček, was erected on the initiative of the Association of Veterans 90–91 of the City of Ljubljana, the Police Veterans Association North Ljubljana and the Regional Association of Veterans of the War for Slovenia Ljubljana.
