More than startup, more than food!
During an intensive Startup Weekend, “More than FOOD!”, which was held from 7 to 9 November 2014 creative and visionary entrepreneurial opportunities arose from the basic business ideas. The winning team was PROTEIN-SECT team with its dietary supplement from insects.
Startup Weekend: More than FOOD!, which took place at the Biotechnical Faculty, was organised by the Biostartup Team of the Biotechnical Faculty’s Student Council (ŠSBF) and the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region (RRA LUR). The participants, who were to large extent students of different study programmes, with the help of professional tutors, academics and entrepreneurs from the profession, developed their business opportunities in the field of food technology, catering and food processing industries. Approximately 50 participants, who were divided into nine interdisciplinary teams, presented their ideas before the Board at the final event. The latter named the Protein-sect team, which offered protein powders made of insects, as winners.
Under this topic, the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region (RRA LUR) identified opportunities for development of new entrepreneurial ideas. “Raising the quality of life in the region and creating an appealing economic environment are two important goals of the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region; therefore we once more decided to participate in the organisation of the event. In addition, we constantly support the development of cutting-edge and innovative projects with high added value. The products presented today show a great potential of becoming such projects since all the ideas strive towards healthier nutrition. The participants have proven that they are able to connect into a team, successfully meet challenges they are facing and offer real solutions in a very short time,” said Roman Medved, MSc, the event project manager at the RRA LUR in his closing speech.
