Network meeting of rainbow cities
The network meeting of rainbow cities in Vienna was also attended by two female representatives of the City of Ljubljana, who among other things presented the LGBT-friendly certificate. Presentation of good practices of MOL will also be in Brussels.
In particular, the aim of the network of rainbow cities is to exchange good practices and experience in the LGBT field and participation in joint projects. The representatives of the cities have discussed the possibilities of joint cooperation at this year's meeting that was held on 13 and 14 November in Vienna as well. MOL representatives presented the activities of the Municipality of Ljubljana with which the participants were very impressed, and particularly with the LGBT-friendly certificate. They also talked about the possibilities of cooperation in joint projects.
MOL activities in the LGBT field have been repeatedly noticed as an example of good practice. At the “Building Bridges” conference of the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation, which was this March held in Ljubljana, the representative of the Dutch Ministry suggested that Ljubljana should be included in the network of rainbow cities. Our request for inclusion in the network of rainbow cities was accepted with enthusiasm. There are currently 21 European cities participating in the network, and in the future it is expected that European and other cities shall be included (for example, interest was shown by the US and Japanese cities).
Good practices of the City of Ljubljana in this field were also presented by the its representative at the Gender Equality and Human Rights of LGBT Persons seminar, which took place in Brussels from 24 to 26 November 2014 and was dedicated to male and female representatives of local and regional communities from the Western Balkans and Turkey.
