New cultural monument – Plečnik's apiary

We have enriched the Bee Path in Ljubljana with a new cultural monument, Plečnik's apiary, which we have set up on the southern slope of Castle Hill.

The new apiary is a replica of Plečnik's apiary from the castle in Lany near Prague in the Czech Republic, designed by architect Jože Plečnik in the 1930s when renovating the residence of the first Czech president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The location of Plečnik's apiary on the southern slope of Castle Hill gives bees access to many areas for collecting quality pollen and pollination.

The erection of Plečnik's apiary is a result of joint efforts of the City of Ljubljana, the Beekeeper Society Barje, the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association and the SID Bank, which donated 10,000 EUR to the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association for its set up.
